River and sea

2014 has been a prolific year for ideas, and many new canvases have been completed or are in progress.  Visits to the Norfolk coast and Puget Sound, Seattle, have refreshed my visiual recollections of shorelines, a subject to which I return over and over. River and lagoon views also intrigue, and three new large images this year have taken Greek, French and Italian watersides as their subject.

This image of ice on the river was inspired by a series Monet completed later in his career. I am struck by the ease with a few simple brushstrokes suggest so much. Ice floes on the Seine
