River and sea

Visits to the coast always result in a host of ideas, and in recent years many new canvases have been completed.  Visits to the Norfolk, Dorset, |Devon and Cornwall coastlines and to Puget Sound, Seattle, have refreshed my stock of visual recollections. River and lagoon views also intrigue, and Greek, French, Italian and British watersides have also prompted several large and many smaller paintings in recent years. Inspirations often come from great painters of light, including Monet, Joquin Sorolla, Fred Cuming and contemporary artists, Peter van Breda and Kurt Jackson.

This image of ice on the river was inspired by a series Monet completed later in his career. I am struck by the ease with a few simple brushstrokes suggest so much. Ice floes on the Seine
