I am not one artist

Exhibition 1-4 May 2026 at Madingley Hall

The exhibition showcased a very wide variety of works: large and small seascapes, landscapes, and portraits in oils, pastel, gold graphite and clay.

Perhaps it’s because making art has had to be ‘stop-start’ all my life, instead of an uninterrupted progression.  Perhaps it’s because I am inspired by so many different artists, so many different places and several different media. But I do not paint in a single style, or paint the same thing over and over again.

I am constantly looking – inspiration can come from a sunset, a gallery visit, a piece spotted in a friend’s house, a colour combination in a lifestyle magazine. I see something, and have to try to capture it in paint (or pastel, or graphite, or clay).

Thanks to all who visited, and especially to those who purchased pieces, and for the many kind and encouraging comments.  It was great to see children (and a few adults) taking the opportunity to try painting. My splendid helpers and I welcomed a huge range of visitors, both local and from several other countries, and ranging in age from mid 80s to just 10 days old!
